about this blog

I started this blog to provide resources for those following a carnivore diet.

Your first response to hearing about a carnivore food blog might be, "but isn't carnivore just meat?" You shouldn't have to look further than my home page to see that while this is mostly true, there is more than enough space for creativity and diversity in a carnivore diet to explore all the different types of foods we eat! Additionally, many people, like myself before I started a carnivore diet and embarked on a mission to become a meat-expert, have a lot they can still learn about how to simply cook meat better.

One of the things people love most about the carnivore way of eating is the simplicity of it. You don't have to plan different food groups or courses for your meal and many carnivores only eat one or two meals a day. I've heard people say they would never stop eating carnivore because they simply don't want to have to cook again. If this if you, a blog of recipes might complicate carnivore in a way you don't want to- and if that's how you like carnivore, that's great! In this case, my meat methods section could be a great resource for you for information about how to simply cook meats better, using only the meat itself and salt.

But I see many others who are trying to find ways to make carnivore more diverse and who miss exploring the art of cooking and baking. If this is you, or if you are the person who will stubbornly try to find ways to replace your favorite foods like bread, pizza, and cake no matter how restrictive of a diet you choose to follow, this blog is also for you!

Between all the different types of cheeses and meats available to us, and with the number of things we can do with dairy products, it turns out there are many diverse foods to explore on a carnivore diet! And these recipes aren't all just a cooked piece of meat with some small variation in preparation. This blog includes recipes for snacks, soups, sauces, and replacements for foods like cake, pancakes, and pizza.

Additionally, a very important part of a carnivore diet for many people is eating organ meats and other animal products such as bone marrow. Some leaders in the carnivore community prefer to call this way of eating "whole animal" rather than "carnivore" to emphasize the benefit of eating more than just muscle meat. But for many of us who've grown up in a Western culture where eating organ meats is rare, we struggle to find them palatable or to find good recipes that don't include non-carnivore ingredients. So this blog also includes recipes for good, carnivore-style preparations of organ meats.

People choose to follow a carnivore way of eating in different ways and I don't believe there is any"right" or "wrong" way of doing it. I believe the more animal products you include in your diet and the more you reduce carbohydrates, the more benefit you will get, so I cheer on anyone who is making an effort to eat more animal products and reduce carbs, no matter what else they allow in their diet.

There are so many aspects of our diet we can focus on, including going organic, avoiding food sensitivities, eliminated GMOs, and reducing sugar, but after years of diet research and experimentation I truly believe that the one thing we can do to make the biggest effect in our diet is reducing sugar. Think of carnivore as the end goal of this. For some people, absolute, cold-turkey changes to their diet work best, but for others, they need time to transition and ways to substitute their favorite foods. Some people stick to low-carbohydrate diets better if they never taste anything sweet, while some people will have such a hard time giving up soda that a sugar-free soda is what it takes for them to stick to it. So, whatever it takes for you to reduce sugar and increase animal products in your diet, I think it's worth it for you to do that.

Some common variations of carnivores are those who refrain from dairy, and those who still eat spices. Personally, I allow both, but I try to use dairy as an addition to my carnivore meals or as a snack, not as the main part, and I only use non-animal products like spices as "additives"- in small amounts or for making tea. In this blog you can search for non-dairy recipes, and no-spice, or no-spice necessary, recipes.

So, enjoy the health benefits of going carnivore! Enjoy the simplicity of it! And enjoy great, animal-based foods and the joy of cooking.
